Questions about bonus tax calculator

Is my bonus taxed at 22%?

22% is an optional federal withholding rate for separately identified supplemental wages under the IRS rules. Final income tax depends on annual taxable income. The portion of supplemental wages over $1 million in a calendar year is subject to 37% federal withholding. Payroll and applicable state or city taxes are additional.

What is the NYC bonus tax rate?

There is no single all-in NYC bonus tax rate. A resident's bonus can add federal, New York State, NYC and payroll taxes. This tool compares annual tax with and without the bonus instead of applying a flat withholding percentage.

Why is my bonus paycheck different from this estimate?

Payroll withholding depends on your employer's method, your W-4 and benefits. This tool estimates additional annual tax liability for a single filer using the standard deduction. It does not reproduce a specific paycheck.
